* CITY COUNCIL will meet in executive session Tuesday, July 6 at 6:45 p.m. in conference room one at city hall to discuss the personnel evaluation of the Oberlin city clerk.
* GEM CRYSTAL SINGING BOWLS Kathleen Calby will share the music of the gem crystal and Tibetan singing bowls at the Oberlin Public Library on Thursday, July 17 at 6 p.m.
* NEW RUSSIA TOWNSHIP trustees will have a special meeting on Tuesday, July 6 with a budget hearing at 6:30 p.m. and proposed zoning changes at 7 p.m., followed by a regular meeting. They meet at 45440 Butternut Ridge Road.
* OBERLIN UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISTS This summer the fellowship is exploring a curricula based on Native-American cultures called "Keepers of the Earth." The next segment of the set will be on the legend of fire in the Nisqually tribe of the Pacific Northwest. The program will be conducted at 181 W. College St. on Sunday, July 4 at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome.
* CHILD IMMUNIZATION clinic will be held at the Oberlin Public Library on Tuesday, July 6 from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The clinic is open to any family with children, ages birth to 18, needing immunizations. There is a fee for each immunization. However, no one will be denied an immunization due to inability to pay. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must bring the child's currant immunization record.
* SUMMER CONCERT SERIES E.T. King and the Determination will perform rhythm and blues Saturday, July 3 from 7-9 p.m. in Tappan Square in the center of Oberlin. Free. Bring lawnchairs and blankets for seating.
* MONTHLY FOOD DISTRIBUTION through Oberlin Community Services will be Saturday, July 10 from 10:30 a.m. to noon for residents of Oberlin, Wellington and Kipton, and New Russia, Carlisle, Brighton, LaGrange, Penfield, Camden, Huntington, Rochester, Pittsfield, and Wellington townships. Recipients must provide identification, address verification and proof of income. Call 774-6579 for assistance.
* OHS CLASS OF 1970 meets for its 40th class reunion on Aug. 7 at the Oberlin Depot, 240 S. Main St. Classmates are asked to bring a covered dish. There will be a reunion committee meeting at the Oberlin Depot on July 11 at 5 p.m., and all classmates are welcome to attend.

* A BODY OF ART: Henna Painting will be presented at the Oberlin Public Library today, Thursday, July 1, 3-6 p.m. in the craft room. Local artist Pat Hauman will teach the ancient art technique of henna arts and application. All materials will be provided. Be advised: The henna coloring lasts for one to three weeks and can stain clothing. Sign up at the information desk.
* WONDERS OF WATER Those who would like to learn more about the science of water are invited to a hands-on science activity, craft, and a snack at the Oberlin Public Library on Tuesday, July 6 at 3 p.m. This program is for kids 7-11 years old and requires registration. Call the library at 775-4790.
* HOT MEALS at Christ Episcopal Church, 162 S. Main St. Monday through Friday. Doors open at 4 p.m. Meals are served from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Free to all.

* PARK STREET SEVENTH-DAY Adventist Church, 99 S. * IT'S EASY BEING GREEN with the Lorain County MetroParks will be presented Wednesday, July 14 at 2 p.m. at the Oberlin Public Library. Participants of all ages will learn about conservation by participating in hands-on group activities.
* TAPPAN SQUARE HISTORY WALK Friday, July 2 at 11 a.m. Learn about early residents and hear stories of triumph and misfortune in this 60-minute walking tour surrounding Oberlin's downtown central square park. Tickets must be purchased 48 hours in advance either on the Oberlin Heritage Center's website (www.oberlinheritage.org) or at the Monroe House's Museum Store (73 1/2 S. Professor St.). $6 per adult, with $1 discount for OHC members; free for children under 18 years (most likely to be enjoyed by children 9 years of age and up). History walk may be cancelled and fees refunded if fewer than five people pre-register or if it is raining at the tour start time.
* FREEDOM'S FRIENDS HISTORY WALK Saturday, July 3 at 11a.m. This 75-minute walking tour showcases Oberlin's role in the history of abolition and the Underground Railroad. * HISTORY CAMPS Oberlin Heritage Center Summer Camps are filling up fast. Space still remains for "History for the Day" single-day camps for kids held each day between July 27 and July 30, and for "Green Camp" (learning and fun while being good to the environment) offered the week of Aug. 9-13. Limited space remains for "Local Inventors and Innovators Camp" (Aug. 2-6) and "Architecture Camp" (Aug. 16-20).
