Stetson tourney around corner
To the editor:
Here we go again! The 13th annual Bill Stetson Memorial Golf Tournament is right around the corner. I am sorry to inform you that we have lost a key member of our tournament team as well as our family. Scott Grills passed away earlier this year after a long battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed. Scott's passing has provided us with a renewed dedication to the tournament, the camaraderie it creates, and to whatever good we can do in the community.
This year, we are poised to surpass the $100,000 mark in charitable contributions. Last year's tournament raised more than $10,000, bringing the total for the first 12 years to just over $93,000. We will continue to support the Oberlin Baseball and Softball Federation, the Boys and Girls Club, and the JB Thomas/Oberlin Schools Endowment for the Arts. Last year, we again delivered the leftover food from the dinner to the Oberlin Hot Meals program, and after seeing how grateful they were, we added an additional $1,000 donation. All four of these recipients are providing much needed services to the youth of Oberlin.
This year's tournament on Monday, Aug. 2, will again offer two golf formats. Groups can choose between the traditional two best balls of four, or play a scramble. We encourage entrants to create their own foursome, but we can easily pair golfers with other participants.
We are always looking to improve, so those with suggestions or questions can give me a call at 248-656-9664.
Finally, I would like to offer our gratitude to Dr. George Hoover for all the help he has provided over the last 12 years. The Stetson family is grateful for his support. We all look forward to seeing everyone in August.
