Support Haiti's present, future
To the editor:
I am asking for everyone's support. Haiti needs our blessings.
In the wake of the Jan. 12 Haiti earthquake, which has played on the heartstrings of many, to reach out to offer various means of assistance. Yet, sadly, further devastating the lives of possibly even more. We must continue as a people to reach out and touch the lives of our Haitian family. Especially the children.
Through much prayer and a strong desire to make a positive difference, a Haiti Education Relief Fund has been set up at Lorain National Bank (any bank branch) to aid the children of Haiti in their education.
Jim and Laura Jones, owners of Main Street Menu, one of our downtown Oberlin eateries, has agreed to sponsor me in my efforts. (Thank you again to Laura and Jim for their support.)
As I remain optimistically inspired and motivated, I also recall the beliefs in and passion for world unity through the works displayed by the late beloved Rev. Charles B. Mayle and Oberlin's true trailblazer Howard O. Jones. These men exemplify a true sense of what it means to be a humanitarian.
I encourage others to share in Rev. Jones's story by reading his autobiography, "Gospel Trailblazer." I have found it to be both inspiring and a pleasant read. Rev. Mayle and Rev. Jones have no doubt been instrumental to me in my walk of life. It is true, people do need people. Especially positive and caring people are definitely needed.
I am asking for the community's support as we come together to make a positive difference in and for Haiti, as they strive to rebuild their education system. A contribution to the Haiti Education Relief Fund can be made at any Lorain National Bank branch. Account: The Haiti Education Relief Fund. Sponsor: Main Street Menu (downtown Oberlin).
UNICEF will aid in the allocation of the funds for the Haitian children and their education. We must never lose sight of the fact that all the children of the world are our present and our future. In their time of need, let's come together to support the children of Haiti's present and Haiti's future.
