Thomas E. Cramer
Thomas E. Cramer, Professor of Trombone and Music Theory at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music from 1947-84 and longtime resident of Oberlin, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Welcome Nursing Home.
Born in New Castle, Pa., in 1919, Mr. Cramer received a BSM degree from the Oberlin Conservatory in 1941 and an MA from the University of Chicago in 1947, where he met his wife, the former Laura Gwin of Kosciusko, Miss. From 1941-46 he served as warrant officer and bandleader in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife Laura, their son Thomas L. of Oberlin, daughters Sara of Norfolk, Va., and Jennifer of Paris, France, granddaughter Mathilde Laura Cramer Sapin of Paris, grandson Montague Thomas Cramer Gammon in Norfolk, brother David in Sun City, Fla., and nephews Paul in Lindenwold, N.J., and Kevin in New York City.
A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
