Alma May Wellman
Alma May Wellman of Oberlin died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at her home. She was 96.
Born Nov. 19, 1913, in Tulsa, Okla., she graduated from Conneaut High School in 1932. She graduated from the Oberlin College Conservatory in 1936, and received her master's degree in the late 1950s.
She worked as a school teacher in Conneaut for 10 years, then worked as a music teacher in the Amherst schools for 25 years.
After retiring she graduated from the Elyria Cosmetology School. She then owned and operated M'lady's Hair Fashions in Elyria.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oberlin (now Peace Community Church). She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a member and past president of the Oberlin Book Club.
She enjoyed travel, reading, craft work, and gardening.
Mrs. Wellman is survived by her daughter, Shirley Ann (David) South of Cincinnati; two grandchildren; and a niece, Carole (John Howard) Holl of Elyria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert W. Wellman; parents Charles W. Talling and Bertha M. Blystone; and sisters Bonnie Ruth Turner and Ardis Carmichael.
Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. today at Cowling Funeral Home, 228 S. Main St., the Rev. Mary Hammond, co-pastor of Peace Community Church, officiating. Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery.
