New Ninde Scholars and their families were welcomed Sept. 28 at a reception held at Kendal at Oberlin.

Twenty-one scholars were recognized from 11th and 12th grades at Oberlin High School. An additional 21 aspiring Ninde Scholars from grades seven, eight, and nine were recognized. A number of their Oberlin College tutors attended.

The Ninde Scholar program was founded by Dick and Nan Ninde in 2002 to encourage more Oberlin students to attend college.

So far, 76 students have completed the intensive tutoring in the Ninde Program with 93 percent enrolling in college. Last year, 100 percent were accepted into college.
