Don’t miss the fireworks this year!


Photo by Anna Langova It’s fireworks season! While there are none in Amherst or Sheffield, most Lorain County communities offer big shows. (Note that Vermilion’s fireworks were part of the Festival of the Fish.)

Looking for a great place to watch fireworks in celebration of our nation’s independence?

Of course Oberlin has an amazing show each year, thanks to donor support.

The city will launch its display starting at dusk on Saturday, July 4 from the Oberlin Recreation Complex, 225 West Hamilton Rd. The rain date is Sunday, July 5.

There’s a full schedule of other shows coming up in our area, and not just on the Fourth of July:

Saturday, June 27: The Columbia Station Homecoming will be held at dusk at Columbia Township Park, 25540 Royalton Rd.

Wednesday, July 1: Elyria will have fireworks at dusk 1 at West Park, 1200 Foster Ave.

Thursday, July 2: Avon Lake will have performances at 7 p.m. by Redneck Agenda and 8:30 p.m. by Anne DeChant with fireworks following at Weiss Field, 22401 Webber Rd.

Friday, July 3: Wellington’s fireworks will be launched at dusk at the Lorain County Fairgrounds, 23000 Fairgrounds Rd.

Friday, July 3: North Ridgeville’s Star Spangled Celebration will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. at South Central Park, 7565 Avon Belden Rd. It will feature music, games, and food vendors. Fireworks will follow at dark.

Saturday, July 4: Avon’s fireworks will be held at All-Pro Freight Stadium following the Crushers game.

Saturday, July 4: Lorain will have fireworks at dusk at the Black River Landing, 421 Black River Lane.

Saturday, July 4: Grafton’s fireworks will be held at dark at Willow Park, 960 Main St. Food vendors will set up earlier in the evening.

Saturday, July 4: The 96th Annual Rochester Homecoming will be held at the Eagle Street Park and fire station. A parade will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a Rochester Historical Society open house from noon to 5 p.m. Contests for all ages will be held at 4 p.m. Musical entertainment will be at 4:30 p.m. With rides and games at 5 p.m. Fireworks will be held at the end of the evening.

Friday, July 10: Sheffield Lake’s fireworks will be held from 9:30-10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 10 at Shoreway Shopping Center, 4128 Lake Rd.
