Preschoolers were shaken in a bus crash early Thursday in New Russia Township near the Lorain County Regional Airport, but none were harmed.
The fate of an injured driver in a Ford Focus is not clear, however.
Young Firelands Schools children were en route to the Oberlin Early Childhood Center just before 9 a.m. when the bus and sedan collided at the intersection of Oberlin and Russia roads, Firelands superintendent Mike Von Gunten said.
Two preschoolers were taken from the crash scene by parents, he said. Another six stepped off to a waiting reserve bus.
The crossing was blocked by Lorain County sheriff’s deputies. Oberlin firefighters helped clear the roadway and Central Lorain County Ambulance EMTs were on the scene.
Vaughn’s Towing removed the Focus, which had a shattered windshield and minor body damage.
Von Gunten said there’s no way to tell how much damage the school bus suffered, but it appeared to be no more than a crumpled bumper.
The intersection remained closed about 40 minutes.
