Looking for a candlelight vigil or Christmas play?

To get ready for a merry Christmas and happy New Year, we called churches up and down the Rt. 58 corridor and built a list of the candlelight vigils, Christmas services, kids’ plays, and Masses being held during the holiday season.

They are presented in alphabetical order:

• Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ, 379 South Main St., will hold a casual family service at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, followed at 7 p.m. by a traditional candlelight service with the singing of “Silent Night.” A Christmas Day service will be held at 10 a.m.

• Amherst United Methodist Church, 396 Park Ave., will hold an 11 p.m. Christmas Eve service with carols. A regular 10:30 a.m. service will be held Christmas Day.

• Camden Baptist Church, 17901 State Rt. 511, will have a Christmas candlelight service at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23. A communion service will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Christmas Day.

• Christ Episcopal Church, 162 South Main St., Oberlin, will hold a 4 p.m. service on Christmas Eve at Kendal at Oberlin and a 10:30 p.m. choral service at the church. Christmas Day services will be at 8 and 10:30 a.m.

• Cornerstone Community Church, 111 South Lake St., Amherst, will hold a candlelight communion service at 6:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve. No services on Christmas Day.

• Family Fellowship, 780 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, will hold candlelight Christmas Eve services at 4 and 6 p.m. There will be no Christmas Day services. Only one family service will be held at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

• Fellowship Church, 44777 State Rt. 18, Wellington, will hold a Christmas worship and dinner at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18. A Christmas Eve candlelight and communion service will be at 7 p.m. A Christmas Day celebration will be held at 7 p.m.

• First Baptist Church, 125 Grand Ave., Wellington, will hold a Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. with candles, carols, and communion. A Christmas Day service at 10:30 a.m. will feature the Sanctuary Choir, caroling, and reading of the Christmas story.

• First Church in Oberlin United Church of Christ, 106 North Main St., will host a 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service. A Christmas Day communion service will be at 10 a.m., which will feature the “Everybody Christmas” pageant. A service of lessons and carols will be held at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

• First Congregational United Church of Christ, 140 South Main St., Wellington, will host a children’s play during worship at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18. A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be at 7 p.m. Christmas Day worship will be at 10 a.m.

• First United Methodist Church, 45 South Professor St., Oberlin, will hold a family-friendly Christmas pageant at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18. A candlelight Christmas Eve service will be at 7:30 p.m. A Christmas Day breakfast will be at 9 a.m. with services at 10:30 a.m.

• Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1100 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, will hold a 5 p.m. Christmas Eve candlelight service. Christmas Day worship will be at 11 a.m.

• Green Pastures Baptist Church, 12404 Leavitt Rd., Oberlin, will have Sunday school at 11 a.m. and a worship service at noon on Christmas Day.

• Heritage Presbyterian Church, 515 North Leavitt Rd., Amherst, will host a Christmas Cantata called “Let There Be Christmas” at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18. There will be a 5 p.m. Christmas Eve service. A Christmas Day service will be held at 10:30 a.m with singing of Christmas carols.

• House of Praise International Church, which meets at Oberlin High School, will hold a 7 p.m. service on Christmas Eve at its Lorain facility, 4321 Elyria Ave. A New Year’s service will be held at 11 a.m. at Oberlin High School.

• Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 333 South Lake St., South Amherst, will host a Christmas Eve Mass at 7 p.m. and Christmas Day Mass at 9 a.m.

• Park Street Seventh-day Adventist Church, 99 South Park St., Oberlin, will have a Christmas service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17. On New Year’s Eve, an 11 a.m. communion service will be held.

• Peace Community Church, 44 East Lorain St., Oberlin, will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. On Christmas Day, an intimate carols and sharing service will be held at 10 a.m.

• Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 410 West Lorain St., Oberlin, will hold a Christmas Eve family Mass at 5 p.m., a choral presentation at 11:30 p.m., and a Mass at midnight. A Christmas Day Mass will be at 10 a.m.

• St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joesph Dr., Amherst, will hold Masses at 4, 5:30, and 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day services will be at 7:30 and 11 a.m.

• St. Paul Lutheran Church, 115 Central Dr., Amherst, will hold candlelight services at 6:30 and 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day there will be one service at 10:30 a.m. A New Year’s Eve service will be held at 6:30 p.m. with a 10:30 a.m. service on New Year’s Day.

• St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 582 Church St., Amherst, will hold Christmas Eve services at 5 and 10 p.m. A Christmas Day service will be held at 10 a.m.

• Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 46485 Middle Ridge Rd., Amherst, will host a Christmas program at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 and both 9 and 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18. A Christmas Eve services will be held at 5 and 7 p.m. with nursery and toddler care during the first service. Worship will be held at 10 a.m. on Christmas Day.
