Staff Report

After nearly 20 years, Kristian Smith will be returning home when he takes over as director of the Lorain County JVS Adult Career Center.

He’s been hired to take over for retiring director Kit Tyler when the new school year begins July 1.

Smith is currently director of culinary arts at Francis Tuttle Student Technology Center in Oklahoma City. But he started as an adult instructor at the JVS close to two decades ago.

Since then he’s also served as a culinary supervisor at the JVS high school and Lorain County Community College, and has been a food service instructor for the Lorain City Schools.

Smith, who received his vocational education certification from Kent State University, has studied at the Culinary Institute of America in New York as well as Grange Cookery School in England.
