Wonderland wall inspired by Owen

Spectators gathered Saturday to watch professional artists create an elaborate Wonderland mural on a wall outside the Oberlin Public Library. The giant piece — drawn by Laura Dahle, David Baker, Dana Juliano, Jan Dregalla, and Terry Flores — honored former children’s librarian Eleanor Owen, who died March 23 at age 95. Owen served for many years as the children’s librarian at the OPL, where a room is named in her memory. She would read books to young Oberlin Schools students and is remembered fondly by an entire generation. Baker, an illustrator, came up with the theme for the wall, which is decorated each year as part of Oberlin’s Chalk Walk.
