Athletes from around the country will come to Oberlin July 15 and 16 to play in the 35th Annual Outdoor Basketball Festival at Park Street Park.
Everyone from local street legends to big-time NCAA Division I ballers participate in the two-day double elimination tournament, said Oberlin recreation director Ian Yarber.
Last year’s winners, Details, will not be returning to defend their title. That means a new champion will be crowned this year, with trophies awarded to the first and second place teams.
Spectators can watch 16 teams of 12 fight for glory on the courts. Games will be played rain or shine.
The weekend will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday with the Oberlin High School Legends of the Past Game. Tournament play will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Basketball is the main draw, but music and food vendors — including barbecue and snow cones — turn the competition into a party.
All proceeds go to the city of Oberlin.
