Drowning victim identified as Oberlin man

Staff Report

A man who drowned in Lake Erie has been identified as 21-year-old Jyventa Harris of Oberlin.

Firefighters received a call saying two men in an inflatable boat were having trouble getting back to shore at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Avon Lake police.

Harris’ body was recovered by a dive team after a three-hour search.

The man with Harris, 24-year-old Benjamin Isabell, was able to reach safety with the assistance of Dallas Fowler, 44, of Avon Lake.

Attempts to reach Harris failed because he was too far from shore, police said.
