Jewell Thomas Yarber

Jewell Thomas Yarber of Oberlin died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at Community Health Partners in Lorain, surrounded by his family. He was 76.

Born Nov. 4, 1933, in Louisville, Ky., he worked as a hot metal transport for General Motors for more than 31 years. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW in Oberlin. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Mr. Yarber is survived by his wife, Edna; son, Wayne T. Yarber of Oberlin; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Vincent D. Yarber; parents, Matthew Yarber and Ilar Mae Triggs; stepmother, Bessie H. Yarber; brothers James, Melvin, Rhubin, and Raymond Yarber; and sisters Sophie Simpson and Annie Lawson.

Services were Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the Rev. Anthoni D. McElrath, pastor, officiating. Burial was at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
