LCT, city provide two days of transportation per week

By contract with Lorain County Transit, the city of Oberlin will be providing Oberlin Connector demand-response bus service, on a trial basis, from July 6 through Sept. 30. Additional financial support for the pilot program is being provided by Oberlin Community Services and the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Service will operate Mondays and Thursdays only from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be no service on Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of the Labor Day federal holiday; instead Oberlin Connector bus service will operate on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The Oberlin Connector bus will provide service to destinations in and around Oberlin on Mondays. On Thursdays, the bus will provide service to destinations in Elyria and Lorain. The first and third Thursdays will be for bus trips to Elyria. The second and fourth Thursdays will be for trips to Lorain.

First Transit, under contract with Lorain County Transit, will take and dispatch calls for Oberlin residents requesting service. Passengers may call 1-800-406-7541 to schedule a ride up to two weeks in advance and as soon as the same day. Hearing impaired passengers may call 1-800-750-0750. Passengers may flag down the driver and board the Oberlin Connector without prior reservation.

One-way bus fares are $2.20 for adults and $1.10 for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and children aged 3-12. An all-day pass can be purchased on the bus for $5. Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority residents and low-income Oberlin residents may pay a one-way fare of $1.10 with an identification card provided by Oberlin Community Services.

Questions about the Oberlin Connector pilot program should be addressed to Lorain County Transit customer service (440-329-5525), to Oberlin Community Services (774-6579), or to the city of Oberlin (775-1531).
