To the editor:
I am an Oberlin resident who is interested in keeping our wonderful landmarks. The windmill on Rt. 58 is in need of renovation and maintenance. Many people enjoy seeing it as they drive by, and visitors stop to take pictures of the windmill.
While it is not an historic landmark, it is certainly a community icon.
According to a recent engineers’ report, there are immediate safety concerns, which are being handled by the owner. Renovation of the outside is estimated to cost $40,000 to $50,000. The owner is unable to cover this cost.
I am a member of an informal community group, the Windmill Interest Group. We are interested in opening a fund to cover the cost of renovation. Hopefully, we can prevent another landmark from falling down.
