To the editor:
Oberlin is fortunate to have added to its many cultural offerings the Apollo Theater’s Metropolitan Opera’s HD Live performances.
As I attended Renee Fleming’s historic final performance in “Der Rosenkavalier” right here in Oberlin recently, I thought back to my high school years in the New York suburbs, when several of my fellow students and I took the train each Saturday to the big city, walked to the “old” Met, stood in line to buy standing room tickets, then crowded into a small area at the very back of the orchestra level, far from the stage.
How much more comfortable it is to go to the opera at the Apollo, to say nothing of the closer view! Thank you!
