To the editor:
Seventy-two years ago, the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, destroying these cities, horrifically killing innocent civilians and permanently maiming those who survived with radiation poisoning.
We committed a terrible act against humanity. It is time to reevaluate our present need to stock pile 15,000 nuclear weapons around the world. Be aware, President Donald Trump has sole authority over our nuclear arsenal.
President number 45 is currently re-evaluating policy and plans to build new weapons, along with lowering the threshold for use. Trump has shown himself to be erratic, irresponsible, and unstable. He cannot keep from tweeting in knee-jerk fashion, regardless of the effect it has on our nation’s reputation. Are we to assume he’ll use solid judgement when it comes to deploying nuclear weapons?
There has been little evidence this president takes seriously the need to consult with his advisors on any decision he makes. We, the people, need to use our united power to prevent the use of nuclear weapons by this chaotic, tyrannical regime controlling our government.
Contact your legislators and let them know:
1. We want nuclear weapons out of the hands of Trump, an unstable human being capable of destroying the entire plant on a thoughtless whim.
2. Immediately initiate the decrease in number and begin dismantling all nuclear weapons.
We have seen the heartbreaking damage atomic weapons have on our planet and on humanity. It is up to each and every one of us to make our voices heard. This is our nation, our planet. We must become active participants in governance if we are to survive the many threats to our planet’s health and the well-being of all inhabitants.
