To the editor:
I write to express my support for Heather Adelman for Oberlin city council. I met Heather soon after moving to Oberlin in 2011. Heather embodies all of the characteristics we need in a representative: dedication, tenacity, intelligence, and compassion.
Adelman’s dedication to this city and county is evident, particularly on the issues of environmental sustainability, economic development, and community engagement. As an employee of the Oberlin Project for six years, she helped both the city and the college meet their sustainability goals. While there, she also helped create the Oberlin Food Hub, which connects area farmers with restaurants and other wholesale purchasers, providing economic opportunities for small and medium farmers, and increasing consumption of local produce within the county. She is a very active volunteer in the community, serving on a number of boards and commissions, including Oberlin Community Services, Lorain County Solid Waste Policy Committee, and the city of Oberlin’s resource conservation and recovery commission — all while raising a family.
Oberlin is a wonderful and unique city and I am grateful to be raising my family here. I know that Heather Adelman has the experience and long-term vision needed to continue the legacy of sustainability and progressivism for which our city is known.
