CROSS COUNTRY: Perales finishes 41st at states

Head coach David Hathaway and Phoenix runner Simon Perales were excited for the state meet at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.


The first Phoenix cross country state runner in history finished 41st Saturday at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III state meet.

Senior Simon Perales finished with a time of 16:44, which was near a personal best record, at the 87th Annual Boys State Cross Country Tournament at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.

Head coach David Hathaway told the News-Tribune that Perales was ranked roughly 50th in the state.

Perales completed his first mile in 5:08 and was in 52nd place. The runner worked his way up the pack of 155 to be in 41st place by the second mile with a time of 10:37.

Milton-Union’s Will Brock was right in front of Perales in the final stretch of the race and was able to beat him across the finish line by six milliseconds.
