Junior Zion Hicks’ 17 points Friday secured the Oberlin Phoenix varsity boys their fourth straight win.

The boys defeated the Columbia Raiders 67-50.

Oberlin held a small lead in the first half, making it 25-19 at the end of the second quarter. The tempo rose in the second half as the Phoenix held the Raiders to 12 points and scored 24 points.

Caleb Hughley, Donald Johnson, and Justin Smith combined for 38 points and 18 rebounds on the night.

The Raiders outscored the Phoenix by one point in the last quarter but it was too little too late.

Oberlin improved to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in the Patriot Athletic Conference. The team is ranked second in the PAC stripes division behind Clearview.

The boys junior varsity and freshman teams also beat Columbia with a score of 72-57 and 36-33.

The Phoenix beat the Brooklyn Hurricanes last Tuesday 47-43 as Hicks and Johnson combined for 22 points. Devan Yarber led the junior varsity squad with 28 points to a 66-36 win over the Hurricanes.

Oberlin will travel to Open Door to face the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2.
