A grand slam in the fourth inning Monday by junior Olivia Pfeifer sealed a 10-0 for the Phoenix over the Lutheran West Longhorns.
The junior catcher approached the plate with complete confidence with the bases loaded and only one out. Pfeifer waited for her pitch, then crushed the ball over the left field fence.
Pfeifer went 2-3 at the plate and earned four RBIs. Makenzie Tallman went 2-3 with a home run and earned two RBIs.
Freshman pitcher Bryanna Rivas earned the win in the circle.
The team swept the Lorain Titans on Saturday in a doubleheader match-up.
Oberlin took game one 11-3 with Rivas striking out 11 batters. Senior Arianna Ambrosio hit two doubles and earned two RBIs.
The girls dominated the Titans 12-0 in the second game with the help of Ambrosio’s outstanding pitching and hitting.
She only gave up one hit in the circle and went 3-4 at the plate, hitting two doubles and earning four RBIs. Pfeifer and Tallman went 2-4 and combined for four RBIs.
The Lady Phoenix earned the fifth seed in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III District Tournament.
Four girls led Oberlin’s co-ed tennis team Monday to a 3-2 victory over the Vermilion Sailors.
Claudia Olaes earned the first win for the Phoenix at number one singles and freshman Isabelle Olaes took down Vermilion’s second singles player.
Kristin Sherrod and Fayza Rahman sealed the victory after beating the Sailors second doubles teams.
The 12th-seeded Phoenix varsity baseball team will travel to Kirtland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9 to face the sixth-seeded Kirtland team.
