The Phoenix wrestlers traveled to Cuyahoga Heights this past weekend for an invitational where three Oberlin team members placed in the top six in their weight classes.
The team scored 35 points for an 11th place finish.
Robert Bouchonville (132 pounds) led the team with a fourth place finish. He had a six-person round robin pool where he had to wrestle everyone in the weight class and with a 2-3 record he secured his spot on the podium, his first tournament placement of the new season.
During the second round, he let a third place finish slip out of his grasp when he lost a 10-5 lead, pinned with two seconds left in the match. Bouchonville’s recorded two pins for his wins at 2:46 and 1:36.
James Thomas (152) and Riley Horning (182) also went 2-3 on the weekend. They both qualified for the fifth and sixth place matches by obtaining a 2-2 record in their five-person pool.
Thomas had two first period pins in nearly identical times, the first at 1:15 and the second at 1:20. Horning had a quick 51 second pin in the first period and a 7-1 decision.
Both wrestlers lost their final match by fall to earn sixth place.
The Phoenix will take part in the J.B. Firestone Tournament at Black River at 10 a.m. this Saturday.
