The Oberlin Police Explorer program is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Pictured are Tyrone Wicks and Clif Barnes. Wicks, a 1979 graduate of Oberlin High School, became the first Explorer in 1978 at age 16. He went on to serve 21 years at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. Barnes retired from the Oberlin police department as a captain and was the Explorer supervisor from 1978 to 2005. Today they work together providing security at Oberlin College.
