Some draft horses pulled twice their weight Thursday night in the grandstand. The crowd cheered after each pair completed their pull. The horses were divided into two classes: light and heavyweight. Lightweight horses weigh less than 3,400 pounds. Each class had eight teams participating and each team had three attempts to pull the weight before being eliminated. More weight is added after each round. The night started with a 5,000-pound pull. Nancy Vines, one of the scorers, has about 30 years of experience with horse pulls and said the lightweight horses pulled 10,750 pounds last year and the heavyweight horses pulled 11,500 pounds.
