Workers broke ground Thursday on a new 6,700-square-foot health and dental clinic in town. Lorain County Health and Dentistry received a $650,000 annual federal operating grant in May for the Oberlin facility that will offer health care, pediatric health care, behavioral health, and dentistry. “We’re excited and it’s already moving along,” said LCHD president and CEO Stephanie Wiersma, who cannot wait for the new facility to open by the beginning of 2016. The site will employ 16 to 20 staff members and anticipates 15,700 patient visits per year. LCHD has opened a mobile medical unit on the site by Depot Park Tuesday through Thursday to see patients two to 19 years old until the building is completed.
