Forty-five Oberlin High School singers crowded the small stage Monday, Dec. 14 at Kendal at Oberlin’s Heiser Auditorium.
Director Robert Duerr joked that if the group continues to grow next year, they will need risers and have to sing in the Heiser Lounge.
The larger group, the Phoenix Chorale, sang a varied program ending with two carols from Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols.” One piece included a solo by oboist Harlee Phillips.
A subset of the singers, the Chamber Choir, sang one piece accompanied by the OHS Chamber Orchestra, composed of the two musicians leading each string section. The new director of the high school orchestra is Audrey Melzer.
Helen Taylor, a Kendal resident and volunteer pianist, accompanied the singers on piano not only in the concert but also in rehearsals.
