Chief searches narrowed to seven

Two top candidates are expected to be chosen for the police and fire chief positions this week.

The 50-applicant pools for each position were narrowed to six fire and eight police candidates earlier this month.

City manager Eric Norenberg has chosen Geoffrey Cleveland, Lou Ann Metz, and Robert Hanmer as the finalists for fire chief and Kenneth Klamar, Michael McCloskey, Kevin Scalli, and Juan Torres for police chief.

Norenberg said he plans to narrow the search to two or one finalists for each department, then conduct reference checks on the top applicants.

Former fire chief Dennis Kirin retired June 12 and police chief Tom Miller is expected to retire July 3.

Assistant fire chief Susan Hiesser is the department’s interim chief until a replacement is picked.

The new chiefs are expected to be chosen by the beginning of July.
