A 41-year-old Sullivan man and dog were killed Wednesday in a fatal traffic crash cloose to the Pittsfield and LaGrange township line.
This was Lorain County’s first fatal crash in 2016.
Kip McGraw was driving a 2003 Pontiac Aztek on Kipton Nickle-Plate Road near Diagonal Road around 9:26 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve to the right, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol release.
He continued straight off the west side of the road, hitting a road sign, ditch, tree, and then overturned.
The OSHP said McGraw was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.
McGraw did not make it to a hospital. He succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by Metro Life Flight.
Officers believe unsafe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. “However, it is unknown at this time if drug usage was a factor,” said OSHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
