Eastwood Elementary has started accepting applications for its 2016-2017 preschool program.
Applications are available at www.oberlinschools.net, at Eastwood’s office, or at the board of education office. Children who will be three by Sept. 30, 2016, are eligible to apply.
In order to complete the application you will need to take verification of income (W-2 form or SNAP number) or agree to pay full tuition and waive that verification process. All completed applications must be turned in to Wendy Suydam at the board office. The application is the first step in the process. Once that is completed, if there is space available, registration forms will need to be completed for accepted students.
Note that the state of Ohio is planning on changing the funding for students in some preschool programs to only cover four-year-olds, which may significantly impact Oberlin’s program next year. Eastwood will accept applications at this point for three-year-olds until there is a clear understanding of the what the state is going to do.
Children who will be five years old by Sept. 30, 2016, are eligible to start kindergarten. Registration for 2016-2017 is now open at Eastwood Elementary School.
Eligible families can pick up registration packets at Eastwood School Office between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. or the board of education office. Forms can also be found on the Oberlin City Schools’ website under “Parental Resources – Kindergarten Registration.”
The following forms need to be completed: student registration (pink), physician assessment (green, for the doctor to complete), Ohio health history (green, for parent/guardian to complete), oath of residency plus three current items to prove residency, and emergency contact card.
To complete registration, you will need to take your child’s birth certificate, your child’s immunization record, and custody paper/court issued guardianship documents (if applicable).
All parts of the registration packet must be completed before your child can be registered. The registration deadline is May 20 in order for your child to participate in kindergarten screening, which is scheduled for May 27. You may sign up for screening when you pick up a registration packet/register your child or you may call the Eastwood Office at 440-775-3473.
Eastwood will be open on Saturdays, Feb. 13 and March 12, to accept registration materials from 10 a.m. until noon.
If you have a child whose birthday falls between Oct. 1 and Dec. 1 of this year and you are interested in having your child assessed for early entrance to kindergarten, you must indicate your interest in writing to the principal of Eastwood School before April 30. Call principal Susan Alig for more information.
All new kindergarten students and their families are invited to kindergarten orientation from 6-7 p.m. on April 14. The secretary will be there to collect registration materials.
