Two women walked away from a 9:40 a.m. car crash Thursday just north of the corner of Russia Road and Rt. 58 in New Russia Township. The motorists, after crashing through a utility pole and into a field, were attempting to remove the pole from the road themselves before emergency responders arrived, according to Oberlin fire chief Robert Hanmner. “Everyone is OK,” he said. “It’s too early to be certain, but it seems to be the case of a distracted driver. Trying to move that pole was an extremely dangerous decision. I don’t know what people are thinking sometimes.”
