A 27-year-old Lorain man died early Monday in a crash on Rt. 58 in New Russia Township.
Christopher Newman was heading south around 5:19 a.m. in a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu when he tried to pass another car in a no-passing zone, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Re-entering the southbound lane, he ran a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 24-year-old Lakieva Brisby off the road.
Newman slammed into a tree and Brisby rolled through a field.
Troopers said Newman died at the scene. Brisby was not injured. Both were wearing seat belts.
Jeffrey Newman, 47, of Lorain, was a passenger in Christopher Newman’s car. He was flown by Life Flight helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with incapacitating injuries. It’s unclear whether he was wearing a seat belt.
Investigators said they are also unsure whether alcohol may have been involved.
