Cyclist dies at Metro after New Russia crash

Staff Report

A bicyclist was killed Monday morning in a crash on Oberlin Road near the Lorain County Regional Airport.

Mark Snyder, 58, of Amherst Township, was pedaling south toward Oberlin around 8:27 a.m. when he was clipped by the mirror of a passing Chevy van driven by Ronald Carr, 81, also of Elyria.

Snyder was knocked from his bike — he was flown by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he died from his injuries.

State troopers said he’d been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which does not appear to be caused by drugs or alcohol.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
