A Lakewood man is accused of fighting with police outside a home at 101 King St., Oberlin, about 6:40 p.m. last Thursday.
Police said Daniel Cross became aggressive when they tried to handcuff him inside a police cruiser. Ptl. Michael Kastanis’ report said Cross spit in the face of Sgt. Victor Ortiz and tried to stomp on his feet.
Kastanis said Cross also tried to spit on him but he blocked it with his gloved hand. Cross is also accused of trying to kick officers.
Police were called to the home by Cross’ mother, Katie Cross. She said he was screaming and throwing things.
The elder Cross first called police at 6:14 p.m. to say her son came to her home unexpectedly and had been acting highly agitated as they were driving in his car to get gas. She said he left her and drove off before returning to her home.
Kastanis wrote that Cross, 27, received a psychiatric evaluation at the Nord Center in Lorain before being charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer.
He was being held Monday at the Lorain County Jail without bond. He is due in Oberlin Municipal Court Wednesday.
