POLICE REPORTS


• July 23 at 12:15 a.m.: Sandra Brown, 49, of Oberlin, was charged with allowing curfew violations.

• July 23 at 7:36 p.m.: Two suspects fled Wal-Mart after allegedly trying to steal items.

• July 23 at 9:50 p.m.: David Ashenhurst, 61, of Oberlin, and a former city councilman, was charged with having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and BAC over .08. A police report said Ashenhurst was found behind the wheel but not driving — he ran out of gas — on Professor Street. His blood alcohol level tested at nearly twice the legal limit. Ashenhurst was also found guilty of drunk driving in 2012 after pleaded no contest to charges.

• July 23 at 9:48 a.m.: Items were reported stolen from a car parked at Wal-Mart.

• July 24 at 7:43 a.m.: A break-in was reported at Black River Cafe on South Main Street. The cash register, cash from two safe boxes, and a bottle of tequila were stolen. Coleen Marks, 32, of Oberlin, a former employee, was charged with breaking and entering and safecracking.

• July 24 at 6:37 p.m.: Police investigated a domestic violence complaint by a mother against her 15-year-old son.

• July 25 at 11:03 a.m.: A student found a glass pipe on the playground at Eastwood Elementary School on East College Street. It had suspected marijuana residue.

• July 25 at 11:23 p.m.: A woman reported clothing stolen from machines at Main Street Laundromat.

• July 26 at 1:18 a.m.: Wendy Richards, 40, of New London, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving under suspension.

• July 26 at 4:57 p.m.: Michael Campbell, 31, of Oberlin, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and speeding.

• July 26 at 9:05 p.m.: Bryon Alloway, 32, of Elyria, was arrested on a warrant through the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office for contempt of court on an original child support charge.

• July 29 at 1:26 p.m.: A woman said the father of her 15-month-old child has been threatening and stalking her. She said a taillight on her vehicle was broken and a screen on her home window was slashed. A menacing note was also left on her mother’s new car, a police report said.

• July 29 at 4:08 p.m.: Zakiya Acey, 21, of Cleveland, was arrested on a warrant through the North Ridgeville police on a traffic offense. A police report said she at first provided officers with a fake name.

• July 30 at 1:33 a.m.: A man reported his 14-year-old daughter had been smoking marijuana at a party. The matter was forwarded to the prosecutor.

• July 31 at 5:08 p.m.: A burglary was reported on West College Street, where laptop computers were taken and a screen door was found cut.

• July 31 at 8:09 p.m.: A trespassing complaint was filed on East Lorain Street in what police noted seems to be an ongoing dispute between neighbors.

• Aug. 1 at 8:39 a.m.: Renee Aliff was served a contempt of court warrant at the Lorain County Jail.

• Aug. 1 at 10:56 a.m.: A woman reported a license plate stolen from her vehicle on South Pleasant Street.

• Aug. 1 at 9:57 p.m.: A man said another man with whom he was formerly intimate made threat toward and harassed him. The complainant said several people told him the suspect was “looking for him and wanted to shoot and kill him,” according to a police report. The suspect had chased him on a bicycle earlier in the evening near the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, the complainant said.

• Aug. 2 at 12:38 p.m.: A wallet was reported stolen from Goodwill.

• Aug. 2 at 3 p.m.: Maurice Taylor Jr., 21, of Elyria, was served with a contempt of court warrant for failure to appear for pre-trial on a domestic violence charge.

• Aug. 3 at 12:13 a.m.: Police investigated a possible assault on East College Street. The matter was forwarded to the prosecutor.

• Aug. 3 at 3:58 p.m.: A theft of a purse and cash was reported during a musical camp July 27 at Fairchild Chapel.

• Aug. 3 at 5:27 p.m.: Officers responded to a domestic dispute on Sumner Street between a woman and her 15-year-old son.

• Aug. 3 at 5:49 p.m.: Alvin Wynn, 51, of Oberlin, was charged with driving under suspension. Police noted he already had 10 existing license suspensions and failure to reinstate statuses.

• Aug. 3 at 11:22 p.m.: Zachary Fortin was charged with shoplifting from Wal-Mart. A police report said LaGrange officers chased Fortin on foot, finally catching him.
