Car driver charged in crash with school bus

Staff Report

No one was hurt about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday when a car struck a school bus from behind at 273 East Lorain St.

Oberlin Schools superintendent David Hall said the bus driver was slowing to drop off a student and had the bus flashing lights on when the crash occurred.

There were eight to 10 students on the bus, which had picked up children from Eastwood and Prospect elementary schools. The children were taken home on other school buses, he said.

Police said car driver Kelly Mobley, 40, of Lorain, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance. The Kia Mobley was driving sustained substantial front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
