A familiar face is returning to Oberlin City Schools to fill the district’s open curriculum director position.
Ann Glass has been hired as Oberlin’s part-time director after former education veteran George Viebranz retired this summer.
Viebranz was the district’s part-time curriculum director last year and his main focus was to address the downturn in mathematics and science grades among Oberlin’s middle school students.
Glass worked with the school district for eight years before stepping down before the start of the 2014-2015 school year to move to Florida.
She helped Oberlin receive grants and introduce new ideas, from the International Baccalaureate program to growing the high school curriculum, technology labs, a public preschool program, and an after-school program.
Oberlin superintendent David Hall said he thought Glass was best fit for the job because she knows Oberlin and the IB program.
“She’s familiar with the kids and familiar with the staff,” he said. “I think that’ll be great for the school system.”
Glass will be commuting back and forth between Ohio and Florida and is expected to be in the district for part of each month to work with teachers and administrators.
