Donors are making the Oberlin Underground Railroad Center a reality

To the editor:

We, the members of the Oberlin Underground Railroad Center Implementation Team, would like to extend our gratitude to all those who supported the OURC project at our recent fall fundraiser and throughout our entire fundraising effort. Because of your support and the support of so many others in our community and beyond, we were able to raise over $8,000 at the fundraiser, with additional donations still coming in.

We would also like to take a moment to recognize Pogie’s Catering for their generosity and exceptional service, as well as officer Billie Neadham and the Oberlin police department Explorers for volunteering at the event. This project was established on a foundation of community support and it is especially heartening to see local organizations, businesses, and community members continue to donate their time and resources for this important project.

While we are so grateful for the success of the OURC fall fundraiser, we know that there is still much work to be done and we hope we can count on your continued support as the project progresses. Phase II A of the project (site development) will begin this spring using funds obtained from the state of Ohio and we hope to begin Phase II B (construction of a bike/picnic shelter), which is dependent on meeting the match for the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency grant, soon thereafter. We are still working to raise funds and we know that with the help of supporters like you, we can bring this historic project to fruition!

Once again, we thank you for your continued support and we encourage you to visit for updates on the project, events, and programming or to make additional donations. Together we will make the Oberlin Underground Railroad Center a reality!
