Closing Butternut is not an option

To the editor:

Now is the time for citizens to stop the proposed huge expansion of the landfill.

First they want to close Butternut, then they want to dig a very big hole on the north side to get dirt for the current landfill, and then they want to greatly expand the landfill to the north. Our county has done more than its share of accepting garbage from far-away places. Accepting a lot more, just because it brings cash to New Russia Township and the county, is a lot like prostitution.

The road is very important for residents, school buses, and crews from fire, police, and ambulance services. The dump and trucks are unsightly, smelly, and noisy.

Please contact your county commissioners and attend the public hearing on May 3 at 9:30 a.m. in the administration building in Elyria. And please join the Facebook group “Save Butternut Ridge Rd” and sign the petition that is circulating (e.g. at Polen’s).
