BOYS SOCCER: Phoenix top Firelands 3-2

The varsity Phoenix boys soccer team is on a two-game winning streak after defeating Firelands 3-2 Saturday.

Senior Chris Schroth scored his team’s first goal at the three minute mark and Justin Mason finished a shot 11 minutes into the game to take a 2-0 lead.

The Falcons worked the ball up the field and found holes in the Phoenix defense to cut Oberlin’s lead to 2-1 by halftime.

Freshman Thayer Preston found the back of the net early in the second half to give Oberlin the lead and win despite the Falcons’ strong second half performance.

The Phoenix improved to 9-3 on the season and 4-2 in the Patriot Athletic Conference.

Goalkeeper Ethan Carmichael earned his second shut out game of the season last Wednesday after Oberlin defeated the Buckeye Bucks 3-0.

Tam Cadenhead started the scoring drive for the Phoenix off a pass by junior Justin Mason. Senior Jack McMillin and Mason each added another goal to seal their team the victory.

The Phoenix will travel to Lutheran West to face the Longhorns at 1 p.m. Saturday.
