CROSS COUNTRY: Phoenix runners take 14th place overall


The Phoenix runners finished 14th overall Saturday at the JB Firestone Black River Invitational.

Oberlin was led by senior Simon Perales who defeated Fairview’s Stephen Cartier to the finish line by three milliseconds.

Seniors Noah Frantz and David Carter ran in lockstep most the race until Frantz sprinted to the finish line to take 46th place with a time of 18.41. He beat Buckeye’s John Franz and Fairview’s Wil Kruger.

Highland’s John Naizer beat Carter by four milliseconds, earning a 50th place finish.

Oberlin’s Cannon Byron-Dixon and Phillip LeFebvre rounded out the Phoenix team to beat Madison Comprehensive, Wellington, Brookside, Clearview, and Vermilion.

The Phoenix runners will compete at the Obenour Invitational at 8 a.m. Saturday at Vermilion High School.
