CROSS COUNTRY: Senior runners lead pack at Vermilion

Senior runners Simon Perales, Noah Frantz, and Jillian Doane finished at the front of the pack Saturday at the Vermilion Invitational.

Perales took first place with a time of 17:54, defeating Medina’s Steve Stenquist by nearly a full minute. Frantz beat Medina’s Nathan Southwell to the finish line to take home seventh place with a time of 19:03.

Doane cut a minute and a half off her time to earn a personal best with a time of 22:47 and took home second place.

Head coach David Hathaway said Doane is now ranked 20th in the district after her strong performance.

Oberlin’s David Castle raced Elyria’s Noah Vanderwyst and Open Door’s Connor Rusnak to the finish line, defeating Rusnak with a time of 21:34.

The boys and girls will run next at noon Saturday at Medina.
