The Phoenix wrestlers dropped two PAC dual meets to Stripe division foes Lutheran West and Fairview this past week.
The first dual of the evening saw both teams giving and receiving multiple forfeits. The Longhorns received six, the Phoenix received five, and there were two double forfeits.
Recipients of the forfeit were Reggie Bouchonville (120 pounds), Robert Bouchonville (126), Heath Fredrickson (132), Sam Wilson (195), and Morality Anderson (285).
There was only one head-to-head match actually contested, in which Brendan Ortiz (138) battled to a 4-1 loss. The final score ended in favor of the Longhorns, 39-30.
The final dual saw more forfeits, with the majority going in favor of the Warriors in their 45-18 win. The Phoenix relinquished five forfeits and both teams acquired three double forfeits.
Robert Bouchonville was awarded the sole forfeit for the Phoenix. Reggie Bouchonville and Fredrickson lost their matches by a fall. Ortiz wrestled another exciting match but came up short with a 5-3 loss. Wilson used three takedowns and back points to earn a 10-4 decision. Anderson, wrestling a much larger heavyweight, also obtained three takedowns for a 9-1 major decision, his first major of the year.
The final two Patriot Athletic Conference events of the season will take place at Oberlin High School. The final double dual will be held this Thursday with Langston wrestling at 4:30 p.m. and OHS starting at 6 p.m.
The PAC Championships will be held at the high school on Saturday, Feb. 6, starting at 10 a.m.
The Phoenix will be looking to crown their ninth PAC champion as they host the event for the first time in seven years.
The last time the tournament was held in Oberlin was during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. Oberlin has had eight PAC champions in the 11-year history of the PAC: Eric Schubert (2006, 125 pounds), Michael Enos (2007, 152 pounds), Nick Chmura (2007, 171 pounds; 2008, 189 pounds), Andy Miller (2008, 171 pounds), Erickson Andrews (2009, 112 pounds), Hugh Thornton (2009, 285 pounds), and Mason Bremke (2010, 189 pounds).
The postseason sectional tournament will be a one-day event at Independence High School starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20.
