Black River’s Allan Benson scored his 1,000th career point Tuesday against Oberlin but it was not enough to pick up the win.
The Phoenix netted 10 points in overtime to conquer the Pirates 66-62.
The teams were tied at 13 after the first quarter. Oberlin squeezed out a three-point advantage before halftime.
Black River was held to nine points in the third period as Oberlin added 15 more of its own, making it 44-35.
The Pirates did not back down in the final quarter as they scored 21 points to the Phoenix’s 12, sending the game into extended play.
Caleb Hughley and Donald Johnson led Oberlin to the victory with a combined 40 points and Benson had 24 points for Black River.
Oberlin improved to 8-3 in the Patriot Athletic Conference and Black River fell to 2-8 in the conference.
