BASKETBALL: Lady Phoenix fall a point short to Warriors

The Lady Phoenix came up a point short Saturday in their second half comeback against the Fairview Warriors.

Oberlin sank 22 points in the final two periods to Fairview’s eight.

Junior Aszure Chamberlin led her team with 12 points and sophomore Cameron Payne had 10 points.

The Lady Phoenix were shut down in the first half, scoring only 10 points to the Warriors’ 25 by halftime. Oberlin took over in the third period, scoring 10 points and adding 12 more before time ran out.

The girls held Fairview to two points as they continued to make their shots in the final minutes.

The Lady Phoenix lost 33-32 in the Warriors.

The Hurricanes earned their fifth Patriot Athletic Conference stripes division win last Wednesday against the Lady Phoenix.

Oberlin led 14-5 after the first quarter. But the Phoenix could only put two more points on the board before halftime as Brooklyn pulled to within four.

The Hurricanes went on a 17-3 run at the start of the second half.Oberlin battled back in the final period, making 12 points to Brooklyn’s nine.

Brooklyn’s Jelly Benz led Brooklyn with 13 points on the night. Cydney Butler and Sarah Coyne both had nine points to help lift the Hurricanes past the Phoenix.

Senior Anna Cameron led the Lady Phoenix with seven points on the night but the girls fell short of earning their first conference win, losing 38-31.
